AURORA

A$1,200.00

This work was exhibited in the ‘Little Abstracts’ exhibition. Katie explored concepts about the universe and astrophysics and questioned life in space. Due to global inaction on climate change issues, Katie created these works in awe of nature and the vastness of space and reflected on feeling hope for the future of the planet in this magnificent universe.

MEDIUM: Intaglio and mixed media on paper on a wooden board.

SIZE: 50 × 50 cms

Just so you know, while this work does not have a protective glass frame, the print surface has been sealed with an archival spray. While this protects the surface and aids UV protection, the artwork is still delicate. For longevity and/or a permanent collection, please consider professionally framing this piece. To clean the surface, wipe with a soft microfibre cloth. You may be able to lightly dampen the cloth to clean. The back of the work is sealed with gesso and will come ready to hang with two D-clips and a wire. The work is signed on the front of the work at the bottom right corner. Written on the back is Katie’s signature, the year made, the title and name of the exhibition it was in.

More about this work

Body of Work:

Katie’s work is associated with how the immediate and macro (the universe) environments can inform her arts practice, but more specifically, how the natural environment is a source of inspiration for questioning and contemplating issues of climate change. These works are printed works on paper that have often been combined with other media and/or manipulated into delicate sculptural forms.

Little Abstracts is a poetic response to issues surrounding climate change and all things related to outer space and scientific discovery. The work contemplates our desire to control the natural order of things and, therefore, considers humanity’s aspiration to contain entropy.

Primarily, Alleva’s practice investigates cycles, planets, stars, the moon, and the sky. She loves reading about astrophysics. Alleva employs traditions of printmaking; however, her process is highly intuitive, as she diverges from conventional techniques. She has created timeless, geometric printed-paper works on board that are symbolic and spiritual, reflective of the zeitgeist.”

ASTRO was exhibited at the Northern Rivers Art Gallery in 2017, at the same time global leaders were meeting for the UN Climate Change Conference (COP23) (November 2017).
